Gloria Leonard was appointed High Society‘s ‘publisher’ in 1977 – and by the following year the magazine was in full swing.

Her avowed vision for the magazine was to take the culture from Playboy, the counter-cultural, free speech ideals from Hustler, the sleaze from Screw, and create a smart, edgy, sexy offering.

But High Society wasn’t a one-woman operation.

So who worked behind the scenes – editing, writing, reviewing films, and providing photographic features?

When The Rialto Report interviewed Gloria prior to her passing in 2014, she spoke proudly of the ever-changing rag-tag group of intellectuals, artists, writers, and political activists that made up her team.
