Synopsis
Four weeks.
That is how long it took the Tunisian people to overthrow the dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali and make way for one of the greatest geopolitical upheavals of the 21st century so far. But the Tunisian revolution, as unexpected and spontaneous as it seemed to the rest of the world, is part of a larger story.
It encompasses the period from the uprising in the Gafsa mining region in 2008 until the first free elections in October, 2011. In two chapters and a full year of investigation, ‘Democracy Year Zero’ tells the story of these events and their global impact through the eyes of the actual protagonists of the revolution.
